James began his career serving as a basketball coach and social studies teacher in 1972. Over the years he has been a coach, a teacher, a principal and then a superintendent. James has served districts in region 8 for his entire career, including West Lamar, Delmar, North Hopkins, Sulphur Bluff and as superintendent of Prairiland ISD for the last 9 years of his career before retiring. In 2009, when Mr. Morton retired, he served in Texas education for over 37 years.
Since retiring, James has served as Interim Superintendent at Avery ISD, and twice at Detroit ISD. He has received numerous awards and recognitions for his service in education and continues to be an integral part of the industry. With deep knowledge of School and District Management,
James offers unique support and advises the BWA team on how to best serve the specific needs of our clients with educator and student challenges and requirements in mind. James works with the team to establish the needs on projects, and facilitate the discussion on specific needs of educators, students, and your community at large.
