McAlester Emergency Response Complex

Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma

FASTER RESPONSE TIMES IN ALL DIRECTIONS

Choctaw Nation’s mission, matching the amount the city receives from HUD, to construct a fire station in needed cities continued in McAlester, Oklahoma with the construction of the McAlester Emergency Response Center. This complex was strategically placed in the center of the city to ensure faster response times in all directions, recognizing the residents' need for quick emergency response times.

The lot, located in a prominent and highly visible section of McAlester, was generously donated to the city. Despite the hilly terrain of the area, the BWA team skillfully addressed the challenge by designing a retaining wall to level out the area for easy access in and out of the complex.

The command center doubles as a safe shelter for both responders and residents in times of emergency. The sleeping quarters were designed to provide privacy while maintaining the ability to respond to emergencies quickly.

Equipped with three apparatus bays, sleeping quarters, living areas with a kitchen, a FEMA rated safe room, a conference room, a locker room, and a city emergency command center room, the McAlester Emergency Response Complex is a state-of-the-art facility designed to meet the needs of the city and its residents. The command center also serves as a tornado shelter, providing a safe haven for all in times of crisis.
